Air Temp: High 58/ Low 39

Water Temp: 39 to 42 degrees

Water Elevation: 355

Water Clarity: A little dingy

I apologize for my failure to write a report last week. Until yesterday I hadn’t fished for three weeks. The weather has improved immensely and I’ve been out in search of fish.

Yesterday the water temp was 39 degrees and I caught 7 Crappie, about 10 Yellow Bass, and 2 Bluegill. A tough day! I talked with several other fishermen who hadn’t caught much either. I tried shallow (2 ft), medium (12 ft), and deep (20 ft). The only place I caught fish was 22.5 ft deep. The only bait I could get them to bite was an 1/8 oz jigging Rapala.

Today the water temp was 40 to 42 degrees and I caught some good sized Crappie 3 ft deep over brush in 10ft of water. I caught these fish on a chartreuse ”Crappie Beaver” jig fished under a weighted bobber.

Some fish are rising for the warmer water near surface and if our warm trend continues, I look for the catching to get better. For now I’d fish either deep (20+ ft) or shallow (5 ft or less). For Bass that means suspending jerk baits shallow and a jig, deep.

Capt Kirk, out!
